In a move that Reuters said will “reshape the global semiconductor landscape,” Nvidia Corp. is purchasing Arm of the U.K. from SoftBank Group Corp. of Japan. Arm is a chip architect, but does not manufacture them.
“The sale puts a vital supplier to Apple Inc. and other across the industry under the control of a single player and faces likely pushback from regulators and rivals to Nvidia, the biggest U.S. chip company by market capitalization,” Reuters reports.
